Google Keyword Tool – Read Your Customers Mind (sort of)!

Using Google’s FREE keyword research tool is a clever way to hunt down and target specific keyword phrases that relate to your business and its services. Search engines rank websites according to how well optimized the web pages (websites) are for a specific search term, like the one the user has entered into Google search.

Typing “plumbing supplies” into Google will return websites that have optimized their websites for the keyword plumbing supplies. Google aims to return the most relevant content in response to the search query and therefore if you are able to optimize or include the search phrase into your website or blog then you stand a better chance of ranking for that term.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get inside the mind of the person in front of the computer and figure out what phrases they search Google for?

Fortunately there’s a small business tool that takes the guess work out of this. The Google keyword tool allows you to enter a search phrase like “plumbing supplies” and it will return similar and related search terms based on the history of people having search i.e. “ plumbing supplies”, “dscount plumbing supplies” etc.

This tool takes the liberty of breaking the returned data down into aggregated monthly figures which indicate the number of times that term was searched for. You also have the ability to choose the particular country you are looking to extract data from allowing you to geo-target your searches.

Think about the power of this for a minute…

If you know what it is people are searching for or how many people are looking for particular services wouldn’t that present itself as an opportunity to optimize your website so as to attract those potential customers?

The Google keyword tool is a very powerful small business tool and one I make use of on a daily basis. There is a lot more useful data you can extract using this tool but I wanted to give you a quick introduction before expanding in later posts.

Doing keyword research should be a comfortable job, but it may involve extensive research. A good keyword software will produce results easier. It also helps if the niche you are exploring is one that you are fanatic about.

I won’t recommend software very often but this new service is superb. It’s a key phrase tool that has a database of millions of keywords showing the adwords traffic count monthly together with the google competition count as well as other data.

At a click of a button you’ll find keyword phrases with traffic but no competition and I have used it already to get internet pages and websites to the top of the search engines, even without backlinks.
